Congratulations To The "New" Dream Team!
Recently, a few GCAC members competed in the fourth annual Toronto Island Lake
Swim! Alisha Clemmensen (12), Emma O'Grady (15), Kayla Andrews (15), Molly Nicholls (14),
and... Coach Beth (?). There were various distances (750m,
1.5km, 3.8km), but we all signed up for the 3.8km swim non-wetsuit! We trained for the swim at SKAC and with Little O in the canal in Welland. That was lots of fun!
The
water was warmer than two years ago, and it was hot & sunny summer day; a little wavy. Our parents had a grand ole time; there was live
music & free bananas, juice boxes and sunscreen samples! (Now that's a party!)
"This Kayla" (#05) was the swimmer who introduced this opportunity to us many moons ago. What a trooper, she's always up for a swimventure :) This year she placed 23rd in her division, 5th her age category, and 9th in gender with a time of 1:24.10. Awesome girl you are soooo tough!
"Fly Girl" (aka Dragon Fly) (#33) who had to bow out two years ago due to the
chilly conditions, swam amazingly this time around! She finished, yahooo!!! She was 14th in her division, 3rd in her age category and 5th in gender with a time of 1:17.34! Way to go!
"O'gradylakeswimtime" (#153) competed in her inaugural lake swim, and she had a blast! She was the most pumped of all of us, and was ready to go first thing in the morning! She came in 10th in her division, 2nd in her age category and 3rd in gender with a time of 1:15.21. That's superb!
"GuacaMolly" (#150) swam this race for the 1st time last year in a wetsuit! This year she braved the waters without it like the rest of us! She was 20th in her division, 4th her age category, and 8th in gender with a time of 1:23.08! Our 'vacation girl' swam amazingly! This girl is ready to swim any time, anywhere!
Then there was me, Coach Beth (#117). I actually dropped time from two years ago, I can't believe it!!! I came in 30th in my secret division, 4th in my secret age category, and 12th in gender with a time of 1:32.04. I finished the last 200 m in what-was-supposed-to-be-butterfly but at that point I have no idea what it looked like, so if I had finished freestyle I would have gotten 1:20.00 for sure :)
It was a fun day, the weather worked out perfect even though earlier in the week the forecast was calling for rain! We went out for a delicious lunch and then ice cream from the second best ice cream place ever! (The first happens to be in Calgary thank you, Avacado can attest to it!)
Next year -IF- we do this again, and I'm guessing we probably will, we hope to bring a ton more of our swimmers. (I'm also planning to wear a snorkel, HA!) It's a great way to cap off the summer, and spend the day bonding together! It was O'gradylunchtime after, and they introduced us to this fabulous market! We'll definitely go there again, mmmm mmmm!
Emme, aka "Mr. Dab" would've been so proud! |
