Joanne Malar is one of the Hamilton Aquatic Club's most successful athletes. This swim meet is named in her honour. She began with the club at an early age and quickly moved up the ranks, setting national records at all ages along the way, with many of her records still standing to this day. She competed in 3 Olympic Games, making it to the finals 5 times! She has won over 70 international medals, including gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1995, 1999, 2003, the Pan Pacific Games in 1999, the Commonwealth Games in 1998. She was ranked number one in the world in 1995-1996 and 1999-2000!

ATTN: Parents! Officials Clinic Opportunity!
Greetings to all during this wonderful holiday season! We have a special present for you: the opportunity to participate in an upcoming Officials Clinic!
As part of the our membership with Swim Ontario, the Garden City Aquatics Club has responsibilities to provide volunteer officials at swim meets they attend. This is especially true with championship meets where clubs are expected to have a certain number of officials present in order for a club to participate in the championship meet.
Nearly 20 of our GCAC swimmers have qualified for the
Western Ontario Swimming Association (WOSA) Short Course Championships. This event is being held from January 31, 2014 to February 2,
2014 in Windsor, Ontario. (This is 90% of our active competitive membership!) We will be required to assist with officiating at this meet!
The most rewarding part of volunteering is the spectacular access you
have to the swimming deck – you literally have the best seat in the house to
watch your swimmer. Air temperatures are cooler on deck than in the gallery, and you have the
satisfaction of supporting all the dedicated athletes. Swimming has the highest
need for volunteers of any sport...it takes 30 to 40 volunteers per session to
allow these athletes to swim. Please get involved...you will find it very
rewarding!

FACILITY
One 8-lane, 25m pool
When you walk in the door, the hallway to the pool is immediately to the right!
There is limited spectator seating on deck and through a small glass viewing window. Please arrive early to ensure good seats! There is plenty of free parking on site! There is a snack bar which may be open at the tail end of the AM session + for the PM session... however you're likely to find popcorn/soda/chips/ hamburgers/slurpees/etc., i.e. not ideal for athletes during competition but yummy for spectators!

All - Friday Afternoon
Warm-up ~ 4:00pm / Start ~ 4:45pm
12&Overs - Saturday + Sunday Morning
Warm-up ~ 7:00am / Start ~ 8:00am
11&Unders - Saturday + Sunday Afternoon
Warm-up ~ 12:30pm / Start ~ 1:15pm
MEET FEES
$10.00 per individual event
$13.00 per distance event (800m Free)
$13.00 per relay
$10.00 coaching fee

We encourage interested officials to contact the Meet Manager
to sign-up early; please ask for confirmation and details.

SPECIAL NOTES
-AM sessions are 12&O and PM sessions are 11&U!
-All events are Timed Finals!
-ONE START rule, one false start is a DQ!
-Events will be seeded slowest to fastest, mixing genders and age groups!
-Results will be separated according to gender and age category!
-Please bring a lock to store your valuables in the locker room!
-There's a limit of 4 individual swims per session!
-There are awards at this meet, 1st-3rd place ribbons!
